23rd Bill & Monica Griffin Gala 11th March 2017

This weekend saw 12 of our younger swimmers attending the 23rd Griffin gala up at Copeland (Whitehaven).

The gala is a great way for the younger members of the club to gain valuable experience at a simple and friendly event. Simple because there are only 5 events – 4 x 50m events for each stroke plus 100m IM for both girls and boys for ages 9-12yrs which makes for fun and a more relaxed atmosphere.

In terms of success for the Ulverston ‘Otters’, we had a great day with Maisie Allonby managing to qualify for the ‘Skins’ competition by virtue of her third place in the 100 IM together with amazing records from Mia Westwell who broke her pb by 20 secs in the 100m IM and 5 secs in 50m Fly. The Scales family had an extremely successful day out with excellent pb’s from Brodie and some very encouraging results from Mazie. All the swimmers gave 100% and as a result we won medals across the board with gold/ silver and bronzes, had ribbons awarded for 4th/5th/6th places and achieved too many pb’s to individually mention.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who took part, behaved so well and made us all proud !
